Swanston Street Evaluation
Studio Huss was undertook an evaluation of the impact of the new streetscape scheme on Swanston Street in the heart of Melbourne.
The investigation focused on the behaviour of pedestrians and bike riders in relation to the behavioural expectations of the design, particularly those associated with the new tram platform stops. The project is a collaboration between Bicycle Network, The City of Melbourne and the TAC.
A qualitative inquiry was employed involving a survey questionnaire administered on-street to pedestrians and bike riders. Focus groups were used to inform the design of the survey and to explore in more detail the outcomes of the analysis.
The outcomes of the investigation included a set of recommendations for the design and delivery of behaviour change interventions to improve safety and comfort for all users of the street.
